The official PC requirements for Alan Wake 2, set to launch on October 27, have been unveiled. According to Remedy Entertainment, the developer, those eager to explore Alan Wake’s narrative in the decade-plus interim between games must ensure their systems meet the bare minimum, which includes having a GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600 GPU installed.

In addition to other hardware specifications such as an Intel i5-7600K or AMD equivalent CPU and 16GB of RAM, this setup will provide a cinematic 1080p gaming experience at 30fps, running on low graphical presets. Moving up to medium graphical settings and elevating the resolution to 1440p neeeds a more robust configuration, including a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT GPU, along with higher-end PC components.

For a superior Alan Wake 2 experience, where the game runs on ultra graphical settings at 2160p and achieves 60fps, only the latest and most powerful hardware will suffice. Remedy recommends a 12GB GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 7800 XT GPU, with DLSS or FSR2 set to performance, accompanied by a Ryzen 7 3700X or an equivalent Intel CPU.

Even more impressive is that none of these presets take into account ray tracing, which has its own set of recommended PC requirements. To play Alan Wake with medium graphical presets and ray tracing enabled in 1080p at 30fps, you’ll need a GeForce RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU with 8GB of VRAM.

For the ultimate experience that encompasses all graphical enhancements, incorporates ray tracing, and utilizes path tracing, a GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with 16GB of VRAM, a Ryzen 7 3700X or equivalent Intel CPU, and 16GB of RAM will be employed to immerse you in 2160p horrors.

Regardless of the PC settings you opt for, having an SSD is mandatory, and you must ensure your SSD has a minimum storage capacity of 90GB. While a Performance mode is accessible for players on PS5 and Xbox Series X seeking a smoother gameplay experience, Remedy contends that the game’s visual appeal is better realized at a lower frame rate.

“The game has been built from the beginning as a 30fps experience focusing on visuals and ambiance, but somehow we have managed to include a solid Performance mode. Our Northlight engine scales well in this case though, lower resolution yet the game looks amazing. One of the big challenges from a performance standpoint on the Saga side is that the Pacific Northwest has a lot of foliage, trees, (transparent objects), expensive lighting (that looks amazing) amongst many other features that make it really challenging on the frame rate.” Remedy Entertainment communications director Robert Puha explained.
