At their May 20th event, Microsoft showcased a range of hardware and software updates, including the new Copilot+ assistant and powerful laptops powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors. These devices are poised to rival Apple’s MacBook Air with M3 chip, offering exceptional battery life and top-notch performance.
Microsoft Surface Laptop 7
The redesigned Surface Laptop 7 comes in two sizes: 13.8-inch and 15-inch. The 13.8-inch variant measures a mere 17.5 mm in thickness and weighs around 1.34 kilograms, yet boasts up to 20 hours of video playback and 13 hours of web browsing.
Crafted from aluminum, it features a PixelSense Flow display with 2K resolution, a 3:2 aspect ratio for productivity, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The 13-inch model comes with either a Snapdragon X Plus or X Elite CPU, while the 15-inch model only offers the top-tier Elite chipset. It includes 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of fast SSD storage.
The laptops feature Windows Hello for authentication, USB4 ports, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm jack. The 15-inch variant additionally has a microSD card reader for quick file transfers. Both models sport Dolby Atmos-certified stereo speakers.
A haptic feedback touchpad and carbon fiber construction for enhanced durability and reduced flex during typing round out the package. Prices start at $999 in the US.
Microsoft Surface Pro 11
The new Surface Pro remains a 2-in-1 device with a 13-inch touchscreen display. It features a PixelSense Flow display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2880 x 1920 pixels resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Measuring just 9.3 mm thin and weighing under 900 grams without the keyboard attached, it comes in OLED or LCD display options.
Powered by either a Snapdragon X Plus or X Elite processor, it also features a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU capable of 45 trillion operations per second. Configurations include 16GB or 32GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD storage.It boasts Dolby Atmos-certified stereo speakers and dual microphones with Voice Focus+.
Connectivity options include WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB-C ports, and DisplayPort 2.1. It also has a NanoSIM 5G slot and supports the Surface Slim Pen (2nd Edition) and a Surface Pro Signature Keyboard with a kickstand.
