Adobe has announced a groundbreaking integration that brings features from three of its flagship products, Photoshop, Express, and Acrobat, natively into ChatGPT, completely free for all users. Starting today, ChatGPT’s 800+ million users worldwide can edit images, create animations, and manage PDFs using natural language prompts.
Meeting Users Where They Already Work
“Our innovations in agentic conversational interfaces are making it possible to bring Adobe’s apps to third-party platforms like ChatGPT, where hundreds of millions of people already work every day,” said Ely Greenfield, Chief Technology Officer and Digital Media business at Adobe.
The company positions this integration as both an accessible entry point for users unfamiliar with Adobe’s professional tools and a faster way for experienced users to make quick edits without launching full applications.
“By making Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Acrobat available in ChatGPT, we’re giving users an accessible way to do creative work, editing vacation photos, creating event invitations, transforming documents, while delivering the precision and control that define Adobe’s tools, all inside the chat,” Greenfield explained.
Adobe Photoshop on ChatGPT
The Photoshop integration allows users to upload images and request edits through natural language commands. Users can prompt ChatGPT with requests like “Adjust the brightness levels on Photoshop,” and the editing happens directly within the chat interface.
What makes this integration particularly powerful is its contextual awareness. Users don’t need to explicitly mention Photoshop in their prompts. For instance, you could say “Apply a charcoal drawing style to this entire image, except for the dog in the corner,” and Photoshop within ChatGPT will identify the elements and execute the request.
The integration supports various effects including glitch, glow, tritone, halftone, dither, mosaic, and motion blur. After applying effects, users get access to adjustment sliders for brightness, contrast, and exposure, providing manual fine-tuning capabilities similar to the native Photoshop experience.
For more complex projects, users can click “Open in Photoshop” to launch the web-based version directly from ChatGPT, with all adjustment layers automatically preserved.
Adobe Express for ChatGPT
Adobe Express integration focuses on design creation and animation. Users can input detailed prompts such as “Use Adobe Express to give me some ideas for a Happy Birthday card for my niece, who’s turning 9. She likes space themes, robots, and her favorite color is purple.”
The tool generates multiple design options based on Adobe’s library of professional templates. Users can then request specific modifications like “Make the robot bigger, and change the purple tones to dark red,” with Adobe Express processing adjustments sequentially.
The integration also supports animation requests. A simple prompt like “Can you animate this design with a popping animation?” will generate animated versions with multiple style options to choose from.
Like Photoshop, users can transition to the web-based Adobe Express for access to a fully layered, editable version of their creation.
Adobe Acrobat for ChatGPT
The Acrobat integration transforms PDF management within ChatGPT. Users can upload PDFs and either manually edit text using familiar Acrobat editing tools or request ChatGPT to make specific changes through natural language.
Key features include the ability to merge multiple PDFs through an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, reorder documents, extract text and data, compress files, or save high-quality versions, all functionality available in the full Acrobat application.
Users can work with PDFs conversationally, just as they would with any other document attached to ChatGPT, while having access to professional-grade PDF tools.
Availability and Future Plans
All three Adobe integrations are available for free starting December 10 across multiple platforms. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Express are accessible on ChatGPT desktop, web, and iOS. Adobe Express for ChatGPT is also available on Android, with support for Photoshop and Acrobat on Android coming soon.
Adobe emphasized that this is just the beginning, with plans to add new capabilities to its ChatGPT integrations in the coming weeks.
A Strategic Shift in Software Distribution
This integration represents a significant shift in how professional creative software reaches users. By embedding powerful tools into conversational AI platforms where people already spend their time, Adobe is making professional-grade creative capabilities accessible to hundreds of millions of users who might never have opened a traditional Adobe application.
For Adobe, it’s an opportunity to introduce its products to a massive new audience while also providing convenience for existing users. For ChatGPT users, it means access to industry-standard creative tools without leaving their workflow or paying subscription fees, at least for these integrated features.
