More than 400 guests, representatives of public administration, major companies, universities, and the local community, gathered on Thursday evening at Cinema Timiș for the official launch of the “Timișoara Revoluționară” platform, an ambitious project designed to reposition the city on the European map of innovation and performance.
Developed in partnership with local companies, the initiative proposes a new narrative about Timișoara, one centered on technology, advanced industry, research, sustainability, and global impact.
Opening the event, Dominic Fritz, Mayor of Timișoara, emphasized that innovation is not merely part of the city’s legacy, but a defining force of its present.
“Timișoara’s identity as a city of innovation and firsts is not a cliché, but a living reality. Our innovative spirit does not belong to the past — it manifests itself today, every day, through the people and companies building this city,” Fritz said.
Valentin Mureșan, the mayor’s advisor for digitalization and Smart City development, highlighted the city’s technological maturity and its confidence in competing at the highest level.
“We have built things whose strength we fully understand. We can say that in Timișoara, we have reached the point where we have caught up with technology,” Mureșan noted.
Adrian Faur, co-founder of HowAboutTech, offered a striking perspective on the city’s global footprint.
“At first analysis, the products and services created in Timișoara over the past ten years have reached more than one billion people worldwide,” he said.
A Strategic Vision for a Competitive Europe
The evening’s program included a presentation of the campaign’s strategic direction, examples of stories already documented, and a panel discussion moderated by journalist Vitalie Cojocari.
Participants in the debate represented some of the most influential companies operating in the region, alongside local administration leaders. Among them were Călin Costinaș (Deputy CEO of Profi Rom Food), Simona Belea (Managing Director of AUMOVIO), Ligia Ardelean (General Manager of Atos Global Delivery Center SRL), Șerban Nicolescu (General Manager of Continental Anvelope România), Adrian Faur (HowAboutTech), and Oliviu Burlacu (General Manager of Hexing Europe).
“Timișoara Revoluționară” is not a campaign about revisiting the past. Rather, it is a platform that connects the revolutionary spirit of 1989 with today’s economic and technological dynamism. Its initiators describe it as a statement of confidence in a city that generates value, technology, and competitiveness at a European level.
In a European context marked by strategic competition for technological leadership and industrial autonomy, Timișoara is positioning itself as a regional pole of stability and innovation. The city has demonstrated its ability to attract capital, absorb European funds, and develop industrial and technological hubs through strong partnerships between administration, universities, and the private sector.
In the coming months, the platform will publish weekly stories spotlighting companies, teams, and individuals who are developing internationally impactful solutions in Timișoara.
“Timișoara Revoluționară” is a project for the City of Timișoara, initiated by HowAboutTech and implemented together with the Timișoara City Hall, Visit Timișoara, and the Timișoara Project Center.
