Apple has notified developers via email about pricing and fee adjustments for app sales and in-app purchases across several countries, including Romania, according to 9to5Mac.

Tax Changes by Country

The company announced that revenue from app sales and in-app purchases (IAP) will be affected by the following tax modifications:

Romania:

  • VAT increased from 19% to 21%
  • Reduced VAT rate increased from 5% to 11% for news, magazines, books, and audiobooks

Brazil:

  • New 3.5% financial transaction tax introduced

Canada:

  • Digital Services Tax (DST) no longer applies

Estonia:

  • VAT increased from 22% to 24%

Philippines:

  • 12% VAT introduced for developers based outside the Philippines

Vietnam:

  • VAT increased from 5% to 10% for developers based outside Vietnam
  • 5% Personal Income Tax (PIT) introduced for individual developers based outside Vietnam, replacing corporate tax and other fees

Impact on Subscriptions

Apple clarified that recurring subscriptions are excluded from this round of pricing updates, meaning existing subscription prices will remain unchanged despite the tax adjustments.

Developer Impact

These changes will directly affect how much developers earn from their App Store sales in the affected countries, as Apple adjusts its fee structure to accommodate the new tax requirements. The modifications reflect local regulatory changes rather than Apple’s internal policy decisions.
