Cyberpunk Poster

Coming out next month is the long-awaited DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, titled Phantom Liberty. With Idris Elba in the role of Solomon Reed, the DLC introduces a fresh new adventure for both V and Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves). This time, players will embark on a mission, set in the all-new area known as Dogtown, to rescue the NUSA President. The Steam page for the game tantalizingly hints that the choices you make will not only influence the destinies of those around you but will also profoundly impact your own outcome in the ending. It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated games of September 2023, and we can’t wait to play it.

Starfield (Xbox Series X/S, PC)

Starfield is one of those games that is so massive in scale and scope that it can either be extremely engaging and fun to play or it can be one of those launch disasters, full of bugs and waisted potential. The game is set in a huge universe, where you can journey to over 1,000 planets, each offering a diverse array of cities and landscapes waiting to be explored. You can complete quests and missions and meet unique and intriguing characters. Moreover, the ability to personalize your own spacecraft can add to the gameplay and, if it works, it will be a bonus for those of us who like spending hours customizing things in our games, be it characters or, in this case, spaceships. If Starfield successfully captivates players and critics alike, it would undoubtedly mark a significant achievement for Xbox Game Studios as the publisher of the game.

Lies of P (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC)

After playing the excellent demo released by the developers, this has become one of my personal most anticipated game. This Souls-like game unfolds within a stunning realm full of eerie machinery and gothic design. You play as Pinocchio, an entrapped puppet, that navigates through a nightmarish domain. The description on the game’s Steam page is in tune with the atmosphere of the game: as the character’s journey unfolds, he will “untangle the unfathomable secrets of the city’s elites and choose whether to confront predicaments with the truth or weave lies to overcome them on the journey to find [himself,]” The gameplay is true to the Souls formula, and you have a great mix of fighting mechanics that veers more towards Sekiro that others, and artwork and atmosphere reminiscent of Bloodborne.

Mortal Kombat 1 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)

There is no doubt that fighting games reemerged this year and Mortal Kombat 1 comes to complete the list. The collaboration between WB Games and NetherRealm Studios takes you on a new journey by reimagining the series’ origins through a complete reboot of the MK timeline. Also, as a novel addition, Kameo Fighters are introduced, entities that can be invoked to assist in executing impressive combos or saving the player from really bad circumstances. With a rebooted storyline, great graphics and a few interesting addition to the gameplay, MK1 is a great addition to the franchise.
