Nvidia has introduced Blackwell, its latest AI chip generation, boasting speeds up to 5 times faster than its predecessor, H100. With 208 billion transistors, Blackwell promises transformative capabilities like turning speeches into 3D videos. It slashes costs and energy consumption by up to 25 times, reducing the carbon footprint of high-level computing tasks.
Named after statistician David Blackwell, these chips mark “a new era of computing,” according to Nvidia’s CEO. While the price remains undisclosed, the tech community anticipates a hefty cost, given the H100’s $40,000+ price tag. Nvidia envisions Blackwell driving innovation across industries, propelling the next industrial revolution with AI seamlessly integrating into various facets of life.
With an impressive 208 billion transistors—128 billion more than its predecessor, Hopper—Blackwell boasts an AI performance five times greater. This leap in efficiency and performance comes without the environmental toll, significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with high-level computing tasks.
While Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang did not disclose the price of this groundbreaking chip, he quipped about its operating board being “pretty expensive.” Given that the current H100 chip sells for over $40,000, the tech community is buzzing with anticipation over the cost and availability of the Blackwell chip. Described as the dawn of a “new era of computers,” Blackwell is set to redefine the boundaries of AI technology.
