Meta has integrated its AI assistant across its major platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger. The assistant, powered by the newly announced Llama 3 model, is also accessible through a standalone website at Meta.ai.

Llama 3, described by Meta as surpassing its competitors on various benchmarks, especially in coding tasks, represents a key advancement in Meta’s AI capabilities. This model is not only deployed in the Meta AI assistant but is also available to external developers in two versions, with a larger multimodal version expected soon.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, asserts that with Llama 3, Meta AI aims to become “the most intelligent AI assistant globally.” Unique features of the Meta AI assistant include integration of real-time search results from both Bing and Google, upgraded image generation capabilities producing animations and high-resolution images, and a new panel of prompt suggestions designed to showcase the potential of a general-purpose chatbot.

The assistant is now extending its reach beyond the U.S., launching in English in several countries including Australia, Canada, and Nigeria, with plans for further expansion. This move aligns with Zuckerberg’s vision of a truly global AI assistant, aiming to leverage Meta’s extensive user base.

Meta’s approach mirrors strategies used in the past, where it successfully incorporated and popularized features like Stories and Reels, originally developed by other companies. Zuckerberg acknowledges the competitive advantage of Meta’s scale and its ability to swiftly adapt and innovate in response to new trends, suggesting a strong future for Meta AI in the competitive landscape of AI assistants.
