Elon Musk has ventured into the realm of artificial intelligence with his latest creation – Grok.
Developed by his new AI company, xAI, Grok is not just another run-of-the-mill AI bot. Modeled after the whimsical universe of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” Grok boasts a unique personality, characterized by a bit of wit and a rebellious streak.
According to a statement from xAI, Grok is designed to tackle the “spicy questions” that other AI systems might shy away from. In a recent example, Musk showcased Grok’s humorous response when asked for a step-by-step cocaine recipe. Grok’s witty reply demonstrated its refusal to engage in illicit activities, setting it apart from conventional AI counterparts.
One of Grok’s standout features is its access to data from X, which gives it a significant advantage in providing up-to-date and relevant information. Musk even shared a side-by-side comparison, highlighting Grok’s superior capabilities in answering questions compared to another AI bot with outdated information.
Currently, Grok is in its early beta phase, with just two months of training under its digital belt. While it’s available to a select number of users for testing, enthusiasts can join a waitlist for a chance to experience Grok’s unique charm firsthand. Musk also revealed that Grok will eventually become a feature of X Premium+, a subscription service priced at $16 per month, making this advanced AI accessible to a broader audience.
However, xAI emphasized a crucial point: like any Large Language Model (LLM), Grok is not infallible. It can generate false or contradictory information, underscoring the importance of critical evaluation when interacting with AI. Especially in the beta phase.
