Gameloft Romania, a subsidiary of the French mobile game developer Gameloft, one of the largest producers of games for mobile devices, will be closing its studio in Cluj-Napoca and laying off all employees working at this location.

A total of 136 employees will be made redundant as a result of this decision. July 10th will be the last working day for the affected staff.

Gameloft has been present in the Romanian market since 1999, with the Cluj studio opening in August 2010. In a statement, the company cited the need to “constantly reevaluate our production capacities” and implement workforce reductions in response to changing market conditions as the rationale behind this move.

Founded in 2000, Gameloft is one of the largest mobile gaming companies globally. In Romania, in addition to the now-closing Cluj-Napoca studio, it maintains a development studio in Bucharest. Games developed by Gameloft’s Romanian teams include NOVA, Backstab, The Dark Knight Rises, Ferrari GT, Asphalt 6, and Sniper Fury.
